Description

2-in-1 hybrid artificial swallow nest for barn swallows or house martins.

Handcrafted in my small workshop in Brittany, made with passion and love.

Ideal gift choice: a thoughtful gift for bird lovers and nature-loving families!

Installation guide: A unique nest for two species
Thanks to its exclusive design, this nest adapts to the two main species of swallows. The mounting method will determine which bird you will welcome!

- Option 1: For House Martins
House martins like completely enclosed nests, installed in colonies on the exterior of buildings.

Where to install it: Outdoors, under an eave, cornice, or roof overhang, at a minimum height of 4 meters from the ground.

How to attach it: Firmly press the top of the nesting box against the ceiling (eave) before screwing it in. The ceiling will then close the nest, and the small side slit will become the bird's sole entrance.

Extra tip: House martins live in colonies. Feel free to install several nesting boxes next to each other (spaced 10 to 20 cm apart).

- Option 2: For Barn Swallows
Barn swallows (or chimney swallows) prefer open cup-shaped nests, installed indoors.

Where to install it: Inside a building that is always accessible (barn, stable, garage, covered playground, hangar), fixed to a beam or joist, at a height of 2 to 3 meters from the ground.

How to attach it: Leave a gap of 5 to 6 cm between the top of the nesting box and the ceiling. This space will allow the bird to easily enter from above and perch (the small side slit will remain unused, which does not bother the bird).

Extra tip: Choose a location protected from direct drafts and out of reach of cats.

• Material:
Nest designed and manufactured by me in PETG, a durable material – Unlike traditional models made of wood concrete, clay, or plaster, which are heavy, fragile, and porous, our "La Demi-Lune" nest in PETG is ultra-light, unbreakable, and 100% waterproof. It does not absorb moisture, which prevents mold growth and protects the health of the chicks. In addition, its non-porous surface is cleaned and disinfected in a flash, while its high resistance to UV and frost guarantees exceptional longevity against bad weather.

• Durable: resistant to sun, rain, and frost without damage.
• Hygienic: easy to clean, free from mold and parasites.
• Design: lightweight, strong, and aesthetic.

Offer birds a clean, safe, and durable nest, all year round!

• Colors:
You have a choice of 23 different colors (see color palette). Do not hesitate to contact me if you would like a specific color.

• Dimensions (L x W x H): 23.6 x 11 x 10.7 cm

Information

Material:
All my creations are designed and manufactured by me using PETG, a durable material – more modern than wood!

Durable: resistant to sun, rain, and frost without deteriorating.
Hygienic: easy to clean, no mold or pests.
Design: lightweight, strong, and aesthetic, with a modern style.

I chose to make my creations from PETG because, unlike PLA (used by some sellers), PETG perfectly withstands climatic conditions such as humidity, heat, UV, and frost…

The electricity for manufacturing is supplied by solar panels during the day and by decarbonized energy for the rest of the time!

Have a question?

What is the "La Demi-Lune" hybrid swallow nest used for?

The "Half-Moon" nest provides a robust and secure nesting aid shelter to welcome barn swallows upon their return in spring. Designed to mimic the shape and texture of natural nests, it spares them the effort of building their structure from scratch, allowing them to conserve precious energy for laying their eggs, while offering you the pleasure of observing their aerial display close to your home.

How is it attached?

The placement depends on the swallow species you wish to attract:

For the House Martin (outside): Install the nest under an eave, cornice, or roof overhang, at a minimum height of 4 meters from the ground.

For the Barn Swallow (inside): Install the nest in a consistently accessible building (garage, barn, stable, shed), attached to a beam or joist, at a height of 2 to 3 meters from the ground.

In both cases, the nest can be securely fixed in moments thanks to its integrated mounting bracket.

What birds does it attract?

Thanks to its versatile design, the "La Demi-Lune" nest is specifically designed to accommodate two species of swallows, depending on where you choose to install it:

House Martin: If you attach the nest to the exterior of your home, under an eave or cornice.

Barn Swallow: If you install it inside an open and always accessible building, such as a garage, barn, stable, or shed.

Where should I install the nest for best results?

Orientation: Ideally East or North-East to protect the brood from the scorching sun and prevailing winds.

Access: Keep a clear flight path, with no branches or obstacles in front of the entrance.

Security: Fix it to a smooth vertical wall, out of reach of predators (cats, rodents).

Height: Outdoors under an eave (minimum 4 m from the ground) or inside an open building (2 to 3 m from the ground).

When should it be used?

Ideal Installation: Install the nest at the end of winter, ideally between February and March. This allows it to be ready for the arrival of the first swallows returning from migration (from mid-March/early April), when they are actively looking for a nesting site.

Nesting Season: The nest will be actively occupied from April to the end of August (egg-laying and chick-rearing period).

Cleaning: Once the swallows have left for their autumn migration, take advantage of the period from late October to February to clean and disinfect the nest in peace.
