The Cage — Fat Ball Holder

The ecological, safe, and sustainable solution for feeding garden birds.
Say goodbye to dangerous, disposable plastic nets! The Cage is a hanging holder specially designed to safely house bird fat balls. Thanks to its hinged design, refilling food for your feathered visitors has never been easier.

Why choose The Cage?

• Protects birds (100% Net-Free): Plastic nets sold commercially pose a danger to small birds (risk of tangled legs or plastic ingestion). The Cage allows you to use bulk or homemade fat balls directly.

• Clever locking system: The structure opens in two thanks to a sturdy hinge. Once the fat ball is inserted, simply bring the two upper rings together and pass a tie (cord, hook, or string) through them to perfectly lock the holder.

• Easy grip for birds: Its honeycombed and aerated design offers excellent grip for tits, robins, nuthatches, and other passerine birds.

• Durable & Reusable: Designed to withstand outdoor conditions, The Cage is easy to clean and will accompany you season after season.

Technical specifications:
Capacity: 1 standard fat ball (net-free).

Closure / Attachment: Hinged system with double locking and hanging ring.

Usage: Outdoor (to be hung from a branch, pergola, or feeder support).

Instructions for use:
• Open The Cage by separating the two hemispheres.
• Place your net-free fat ball in the center of the basket.
• Close The Cage by aligning the two upper rings.

Slide a tie, string, or hook through the two joined rings to lock the holder and hang it at the desired height.

Each feeder is handcrafted by me on the same day of the order. It is then shipped very quickly, with care, to arrive at your home in perfect condition and ready to feed your garden birds!

Information

Material:
All my creations are designed and manufactured by me using PETG, a durable material – more modern than wood!

Durable: resists sun, rain, and frost without damage.
Hygienic: easy to clean, no mold or parasites.
Design: lightweight, strong, and aesthetic, with a modern style.

I chose to make my creations from PETG because, unlike PLA (which some sellers use), PETG perfectly withstands climatic conditions such as humidity, heat, UV rays, and frost...

Ultra-resistant outdoors: Fears neither frost, rain, nor summer sun (unlike PLA, which deforms in heat).

Healthy & hygienic for wildlife: Smooth and non-porous surface, ultra-easy to wipe clean to prevent disease transmission.

Professional durability: A technical and unbreakable material designed to stay outdoors all year round, season after season.

Zero maintenance: No need for varnish, stain, or chemical treatments toxic to birds.

The electricity for manufacturing is supplied by solar panels during the day and by decarbonized energy for the rest of the time!

Have a question?

What is the purpose of the "The Cage" fat ball holder?

The Cage provides a safe, clean, and sustainable way to feed garden birds.

Safety: Eliminates the risk of accidents associated with plastic nets (trapped feet, ingestion).

Ecology: Allows the use of bulk or homemade fat balls for zero-waste feeding.

Ergonomics: Offers an ideal grip for small birds (tits, robins...) and reloads in seconds thanks to its integrated hinge.

How is it attached?

Attaching it is a quick three-step process:

• Open and fill: Separate the two hemispheres and place your suet ball inside.

• Close: Fold the structure back to overlap the two upper rings.

• Lock and hang: Thread a tie (string, carabiner, hook, or zip tie) through the two aligned rings. This tie keeps The Cage closed and allows it to be hung from a branch or support.

What birds does it attract?

The Cage is ideal for small, clinging birds (tree-dwelling passerines) that enjoy feeding while suspended:

• Tits: blue, great, crested, coal, long-tailed.

• Nuthatches and treecreepers.

• Robins and sparrows (if they can find a nearby perch).

• Woodpeckers (great spotted woodpecker, green woodpecker), which are very fond of fat in winter.

Its structure allows these birds to easily cling from all angles while keeping away larger species (pigeons, turtle doves) that cannot land on it.

Where should I put the bird feeder for best results?

To attract a maximum number of birds while ensuring their safety, choosing the right location is essential:

• **Within your equipped feeders:** If you have feeders with an integrated hook, "La Cage" (The Cage) can be hung directly from them. This allows you to centralize food in one place and provide a feeding area sheltered from the elements.

• **Sheltered from predators:** Hang "La Cage" at least 1.5 to 2 meters (5 to 6.5 feet) from the ground, on a clear branch or under your feeder. Ensure that no furniture, ledge, or low branch allows a cat to ambush nearby.

• **Near natural refuge:** Place it 2 to 3 meters (6.5 to 10 feet) from a bush, hedge, or tree. Small birds (tits, robins) like to have vegetation nearby to take refuge at the slightest sign of danger.

• **In a quiet and sheltered spot:** Choose a place protected from prevailing winds and rain, away from frequently trafficked areas (doors, driveways).

• **Clearly visible from your home:** Install it facing a window to fully enjoy the spectacle without disturbing the birds!

When should I use it?

Ideally in autumn/winter and early spring, when birds need a supply of food that they cannot find in nature. You can also use it all year round, depending on your environment.
