Why use an Asian hornet trap?

Threat to domestic bees
The Asian hornet directly preys on domestic bees by capturing them in flight, primarily at the hive entrance. This repeated predatory behavior disrupts the activity of foragers, disorganizes the colony, and creates lasting stress.

In the medium term, this pressure can lead to a decrease in foraging activity, a general weakening of the colony, and, in some cases, a reduction in honey production. In heavily exposed apiaries, the cumulative effect can become significant for the beekeeper.

Impact on the ecosystem
Beyond bees, this invasive species attacks other insects, including wild pollinators. The Asian hornet is not an exclusive predator of domestic bees; it also captures various species present in its environment. A single nest can devour up to 11 kg of insects in a year.

The impact on biodiversity thus extends beyond beekeeping alone.

This trap was designed with a calibrated entrance that matches the size of the Asian hornet. Small insects can easily avoid the entrance or exit the trap, which greatly reduces accidental captures. This design allows trapping to focus on hornets while preserving useful garden insects.

The Funnel Trap main purpose is to protect your garden's bees and biodiversity by specifically trapping the Asian hornet, a formidable pollinator predator.

Protecting hives and pollinators: By catching Asian hornets, it reduces predation pressure on bees, allowing them to continue foraging peacefully.

Preserving bait effectiveness: Its roof or cap effectively protects the trap's interior from rain. This prevents the sweet bait from being diluted by rainwater, ensuring prolonged effectiveness without having to replenish the mixture too often.

Offering selective trapping: Designed specifically to target the Asian hornet, it helps control this pest while limiting the impact on other beneficial garden insects.

The Funnel Trap is very easy to install on a standard glass jar (jam, spread, honey, pickles, vegetables, compote, etc.):

Direct screwing: Simply screw the body of the trap directly onto the neck of your jar.

By hanging: Thanks to its integrated hooks on the top, you can easily hang the trap from a tree branch, using a simple piece of string.

The Funnel Trap is designed to exclusively target Asian hornets while fully preserving useful insects in your garden. Thanks to its calibrated entrance and suitable bait, it only catches this formidable predator, irresistibly attracted by sweet and fermented smells.

Near flowers and beehives: Place it near your flowerbeds or a few meters from beehives to intercept hornets where they hunt.

At human height (1.50 m to 2 m): Hang it from a branch for easy access when renewing the bait.

In the sun and heat: An exposed location helps the bait diffuse its odors effectively to attract hornets.

Sheltered from the wind: Avoid overly exposed areas so that the bottle remains stable.

In spring (March to June): This is the most crucial period. This is when the founding queens emerge from hibernation to create new nests. Trapping a queen at this time prevents the birth of an entire colony.

In late summer and autumn (September to November): Hornets' protein and sugar needs explode to feed future queens before winter. This is when the pressure on bee hives is greatest.
