Description

Decorative nest box entrance hole protector plate - anti-predator protection

A protective plate to reduce and/or protect the entrance hole of a nest box. In addition, the plate prevents squirrels, woodpeckers, or other bird species from enlarging the entrance hole. This makes the nest safer and protects the residents from predators.

This plate also prevents larger birds from occupying the nest instead of the species for which the nest box is intended.

Benefits:
- Trusted: Approved by environmental organizations in Europe
- Improve survival: helps protect nesting birds
- Anti-predator protection: the hole remains protected against enlargement

Available in various colors and diameters to suit different garden bird species.

Ideal for:

Ø28: Blue Tit, Coal Tit, Marsh Tit
Ø32: Great Tit, House Sparrow
Ø34: House Sparrow, Nuthatch, Black Redstart

Information

Material:
All my creations are designed and manufactured by me using PETG, a durable material – more modern than wood!

Durable: resistant to sun, rain, and frost without deteriorating.
Hygienic: easy to clean, no mold or pests.
Design: lightweight, strong, and aesthetic, with a modern style.

I chose to make my creations from PETG because, unlike PLA (used by some sellers), PETG perfectly withstands climatic conditions such as humidity, heat, UV, and frost…

The electricity for manufacturing is supplied by solar panels during the day and by decarbonized energy for the rest of the time!

Have a question?

What is the "La Persienne" sign for?

It fulfills two essential roles:

Effective protection against predators: It secures access to the nest box by preventing undesirables (like woodpeckers or rodents) from enlarging the entrance hole to attack the brood.

A unique aesthetic touch: With its original design resembling a retro little window with shutters and a flowered window box, it brings an irresistible country charm to your nest box and garden.

How is it attached?

The La Persienne protective plate attaches very simply with screws directly to the front of your birdhouse.

It is pre-drilled with three strategically placed small holes to make the task easier for you. All you need to do is:

Position the plate, perfectly aligning its central opening with the entrance hole of your birdhouse.

Securely screw in the three screws to press it firmly against the wood.

Once screwed in, it becomes one with the birdhouse and perfectly withstands attacks from predators!

What birds does it attract?

The diameter of your nest box's entrance hole and its location will determine which species will take up residence. The plate simply adapts to the existing diameter to secure it.

Here are the birds you can attract to your home based on your model's hole diameter:

- 28 mm diameter: Ideal for small tits (blue tit, crested tit, coal tit).

- 32 mm diameter: Perfect for great tits, house sparrows, or pied flycatchers.

- 34 mm diameter: Suitable for slightly larger birds like tree sparrows or nuthatches.

Where should the birdhouse and its plate be installed for best results?

Orientation: East or Southeast, to shelter the nest box from prevailing winds and rain while avoiding overheating.

Height: Between 2 and 3 meters from the ground to keep the brood out of reach of cats and predators.

Environment: A quiet place, away from foot traffic and feeders to limit stress on the parents.

Position: Slightly tilted forward to prevent rain from seeping in through the entrance hole.

When should I use it?

Here's why it's useful in all seasons:

In spring (nesting season): This is the crucial time when the plaque actively protects eggs, then chicks, from predator attacks.

In autumn and winter: Birds use it as an essential shelter to protect themselves from cold, rain, and wind overnight. The louver also blocks access for rodents looking to settle in for the winter.

Extra tip: Install your nest box in autumn or early winter. This gives birds time to scout out the location and get used to it well before the start of mating season in spring!
