Why band your poultry?
Banding offers precise and simplified tracking of your birds:
Age tracking: The band's color indicates the year of birth, allowing you to know each bird's age and anticipate flock renewal.

Genealogy management: Easily identify bloodlines and parentage (father, mother, offspring).

Individual identification: Isolate a specific bird (for care, behavior observation, or selection).

Note for shows: Professional or amateur breeders exhibiting their birds in competitions must use official closed bands (bearing regulatory markings), distributed exclusively by breed clubs.

When and how to apply the band?
Recommended age: Band your chicks as early as 1 to 2 months old. The band will be a bit loose at first, but the leg will quickly thicken as they grow.

For roosters: Always position the band above the spur.

What size to choose based on the breed?
The choice of diameter depends on the size of the animal's leg at adulthood.

Tip: Wrap a string around the leg, then measure the length obtained flat with a ruler to determine the appropriate diameter.

Indicative guidelines:
Chicks: 8 mm
Bantam breeds: 12 mm
Standard size: 16 mm
Large breeds: 20 mm

The international color code operates on a 6-year cycle:

Just slightly open one end of the spiral, slide it onto the poultry's leg, then rotate it until it completely encloses the leg. To remove it, reverse the motion by gently sliding it off.

You can start from 1 to 2 months of age. At first, the band will be a little wide, but the leg will grow quickly during development. Remember to regularly check that it doesn't constrict the adult animal's leg.

The choice depends on the diameter of the leg at adulthood: 8 mm (chicks, birds), 12 mm (bantam breeds), 16 mm (standard size), and 20 mm (large breeds or roosters).

If in doubt, wrap a string around your animal's leg and measure its length when flat.

For roosters, always place the leg band above the spur to avoid hindering the animal or damaging the band.
